Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: weekend review
Last revised · facts verified
Opened in 2023 beside Woodbine Racetrack, it's the newest large resort around Toronto: 400 rooms, a 5,000-capacity theatre, pool plus sauna and steam, free parking and a no-charge Pearson shuttle. The operator's own claim is more slot choice than anywhere else in Canada.
Ideal for: Flying in for a weekend, big-ticket concerts, and slot players who want the most machines possible.
Look elsewhere if: You want scenery beyond a racetrack and suburban Toronto, or a standard room over 388 sq ft.
Why book it
Everything here is recent. The old Casino Woodbine reopened in stages in 2023 — casino phase one on June 20, The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1 — on its Etobicoke site next to Woodbine Racetrack, a short drive from Pearson. Great Canadian says no Canadian casino offers a bigger selection of slot machines.
Rooms worth asking for
All 400 rooms and suites are new-build. Standards come as King or Two Queen, each in a Premium or a Racetrack version, and all measure 388 sq ft; the Racetrack ones overlook the track, which Destination Toronto says applies to nearly half the building. Accessible rooms have 60-inch roll-in showers and grab bars. For space: a Corner Suite (king plus queen sofa bed) or a 2-Bedroom Suite sleeping six, both with fridge and microwave. NEST bath products, robes, blackout curtains, a mini fridge and a coffee maker throughout.
The booking guest must be 19 or older; kids may share the room but not the 19+ zones.
Friday night on the floor
Global News counted 4,800 slots and 145 tables at the 2023 opening. In high-limit alone: 210-plus slots, 15 multi-game electronic poker/blackjack terminals, 25-plus live tables. Casino and hotel never close. Great Canadian Rewards is free from age 19.
Saturday: dinner, then a show
Copperhorn, out on the gaming floor, is the steak-and-white-tablecloth choice. Casual (yes, that's its name) is a gastropub pouring plenty of local craft beer. Teochew and Western dishes share the menu at Lobster Legend Noodle Bar; Chopsticks Noodlehouse is the other Asian option; gourmet pizza comes from Pizzaiolo. A Food Hall bundles Noodlebox, Mary Brown's Express and Tim Hortons. Cocktails: Northern Lights Bar, 19+. All-ages snacks: the Lobby Bar Grab & Go.
The Theatre handles up to 5,000 at concerts and 1,500-plus at galas; tickets are Ticketmaster-only. Prefer horses? Woodbine is next door, free to watch on most days with free parking, and the fall meet ran race days through November 29, 2026.
Sunday morning, slowly
Pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym. On busy days the front desk may have you reserve pool time.

Heads-up: labour dispute
On July 23, 2026 the operator locked out about 100 Unifor Local 1090 security officers, and a picket line formed. Its October 2, 2026 notice says the hotel and casino are running 24/7, restaurants keep normal hours, and vehicles get through the line at least every three minutes. Check for updates before driving over.
Our call
Toronto's best fly-in or concert base, and the place for maximum slot choice. Rooms are new and practical, not big; a Corner Suite fixes that.
