Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: weekend review
Last revised · facts verified
Tsuut'ina Nation owns and operates Grey Eagle on Calgary's south-west edge; its 178-room hotel opened in 2014. West-facing rooms catch the Rockies, the 2,500-seat Event Centre books strong acts, and Little Chief is among the West's better casino kitchens. The pool stays shut through a renovation lasting into 2027.
Ideal for: Concert nights in Calgary and a base for Kananaskis or Banff day trips.
Look elsewhere if: This year's trip depends on a hotel pool — it's closed for renovation.
Why book it
Grey Eagle belongs to, and is run by, the Tsuut'ina Nation. The casino arrived in 2007; the six-storey, 178-room hotel celebrated its grand opening on May 2, 2014. Downtown Calgary is minutes away and Kananaskis Country about 30 minutes — no other casino hotel in our guide sits this close to the mountains.
Rooms worth asking for
Ask for west-facing: the resort says some rooms see the Rockies on clear days, while others face the city. Room types: Standard King, Premier King, Standard Two Queen (the one the hotel suggests for families), King Suite, Presidential Suite — all described as newly renovated.
Friday night on the floor
84,000 sq ft, 975-plus slots, 32 tables. Slots: 24 hours. Tables: 10 am–3 am. High-limit rooms cover blackjack, baccarat and more. Alberta age: 18. Expect phased renovation work through 2026–2027. Points go on Winner's Edge, used across Alberta.
Saturday: dinner, then a show
Little Chief pairs modern technique with Indigenous tradition and has been written up by the Calgary Herald and Avenue Magazine. The Buffet (18+) serves nightly features to December 31, 2026, then shuts in January 2027 for renovation. Also on site: Blaze Bar & Grill, Eagle Bar on the floor, Stage Bar with free weekend entertainment, and the Eagle Street Eats truck — Indian tacos, chili and bannock, Saskatoon berry dumplings.
The Event Centre seats 2,500, admits all ages, got an L-Acoustics system in 2024 and won Venue/Presenter of the Year at the 2024 YYC Music Awards. Concert Night Getaway: two tickets plus an overnight, $329–$369.
Sunday morning, slowly
The pool is closed while the casino is renovated, so guests receive free entry to the city's Killarney and Glenmore pools. Still open on site: outdoor hot tub, sauna, 24-hour gym.
Logistics and nearby
- Calgary International: 30–45 minutes.
- Banff: about an hour; Kananaskis about 30 minutes.
- Parking free; a designated floor for pets.
- Grey Eagle Cultural Tours: Tsuut'ina Museum, Buffalo Paddock Tour.
Our call
Best casino hotel for a Calgary or Rockies weekend and a strong concert base. Until the work is finished, the hot tub stands in for the pool.
What weekenders ask us
Can I swim at Grey Eagle right now?
Not in the hotel pool, which is closed for the casino renovation. Guests get free access to the city's Killarney and Glenmore pools instead.
Which Grey Eagle rooms see the Rockies?
West-facing ones, according to the resort, when the sky is clear.
Can under-18s attend Event Centre shows?
Yes — the Event Centre is all ages; the casino itself is 18+.
